Island doctors won't be striking

by isleofman.com 31st May 2012

The Island's doctors WON'T be taking part in any industrial action next month.

GPs in the UK are planning to strike on the 21st of June in a dispute over pensions.

They're unhappy about changes which will see them having to contribute 14 and a half per cent towards their pension, twice as much as some other pubic sector staff on a similar salary. They will also have to work longer.

But chair of the GP sub committee on the Island, which is affiliated with the British Medical Association, Dr Alex Allison, says doctors here have already forged an agreement with the Manx government.
