Crossroads Care Film Takes Flight

by isleofman.com 25th May 2012

Crossroads Care has teamed up with Greenlight Television and Manx2.com to make a short film to raise awareness of family and informal carers on the Isle of Man.

The light hearted film features actors and carers carrying out day to day tasks that over 10,000 carers on the Isle of Man carry out daily for their care partner alongside work, school and other activities.

It is only when Crossroads Care come in that carers are able to take a break from their caring responsibilities and enjoy things most of us take for granted, such as going to the shops, taking a bath or catching up on sleep.

Sympathising with the role carers play within our community, Manx2.com will host the film on their flights to Blackpool and Belfast.

Noel Haynes, CEO of Manx2.com, said; “The Isle of Man is a very caring community and sometimes it’s the carers who need help and support as much as those being cared for. We’re delighted to help and support Crossroads in promoting the great work they do. We hope that by incorporating this short video into our in flight entertainment programme on route to Blackpool and Belfast we can help raise the profile of Crossroads”.

Statistics tell us 3 in 5 people will become a carer at least once in their lifetime so it could be a responsibility over 50,000 of us face at some point. Crossroads is the organisation that supports people through their caring journey both physically and mentally providing services for the carer and those they care for.

Jackie Betteridge, CEO of Crossroads Care, said: “Crossroads has come a long way as an organisation since it was formed in 1988. A campaign to highlight the role of carers on the island has been a long time coming. It was very important to us we get it right and we are excited by the finished product. We hope the film will highlight that caring can happen to anyone at anytime and it is the normal man that carries out extraordinary tasks. We can’t thank Greenlight Television and Manx2.com enough for making it possible for us to portray this message to the island”.

Crossroads currently employ 90 staff to provide over 50,000 hours of respite and 50,000 hours of meaningful care a year. To continue to care Crossroads must raise over £700,000 a year.

Crossroads Care film will be launched in conjunction with a new website people are urged to visit. Here people can find out how they can support Crossroads and carers.
