Tynwald Court has conveyed its congratulations to the Queen, Lord of Mann on her Diamond Jubilee with the presentation by the President of Tynwald, Clare Christian MLC on behalf of the Court, of an illuminated address to His Excellency Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood for onward transmission to Her Majesty.
Members of the House of Keys and the Legislative Council together with His Honour First Deemster Doyle and senior members of the Manx judiciary attended the special sitting of Tynwald Court on Tuesday May 22nd presided over by the President of Tynwald who spoke of Her Majesty’s ‘unremitting sense of duty and selflessness’ that had underpinned 60 years of service to the people of the Isle of Man and the Commonwealth. Mrs Christian remarked that Her Majesty had ‘emerged as a remarkable example to us all’ and, in presenting the illuminated address to His Excellency, extended congratulations on behalf of all those present to Her Majesty on her Diamond Jubilee.
Seconding the President’s remarks the Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan SHK said Her Majesty had ‘kept a measure of continuity and provided a continuing and unwavering sense of duty and purpose which has been an example to all of us,’ adding that ‘we can all be proud to have Elizabeth II as our Lord of Mann.’
Addressing the Court Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood said it would be an honour to present the address to Her Majesty for whom the Isle of Man ‘enjoys a special place in her heart’. In his closing remarks he echoed the sentiments of Mrs Christian and Mr Rodan when he said he hoped Her Majesty’s reign would last ‘for many years to come.’
The illuminated address, created by local artist Colleen Corlett, will be presented to Her Majesty together with the Hansard record of the proceedings.
