Following the success of a similar competition last year, Britannia International, part of The Co-operative Bank, organised a family treasure hunt in Port Erin during the Easter school holiday. From more than 130 entries handed in to the bank’s Port Erin branch, Oliver Barrett’s was picked out as the winner.
Oliver, aged 12, pictured with June Gunnell and Jane Kelly of Britannia International, became the lucky owner of a hamper full of chocolate treats. Clearly delighted with his prize, Oliver said: “The treasure hunt was wonderful and gave my friends and me something to do in the Easter holidays. I was so happy when my mum told me that mine was the winning entry – I couldn’t believe how much chocolate I’d won!” Oliver generously shared his prize with his friends from Castle Rushen High School, Matthew and Dylan, who had done the treasure hunt with him. The boys had agreed that Oliver would be the name on the form, since he was the one who bought the pen that filled it in!
Branch supervisor, Laura Kelly, comments: “Britannia International is firmly committed to our local community and we really enjoy running events like the treasure hunt. It was great to welcome so many people into the Port Erin branch as they dropped off their entry forms – and it’s particularly nice to see someone of Oliver’s age winning the prize. We are all very impressed that he was so generous, and shared his chocolate with his friends!”
