by isleofman.com 23rd May 2012

A horse had to be put down after an accident involving a car yesterday afternoon (Tues)

The rider, a local woman, was shocked but otherwise uninjured.

The incident happened at 3.45pm on the main Jurby to Bride Coast road, around 150 metres on the Bride side of the Leodest Road junction. The horse was hit by a classic Bentley car.

The woman, who was part of a group of riders, was thrown from her mount. The horse, a 10 year old chestnut gelding, received very serious leg injuries and had to be humanely destroyed by a vet at the scene.

The other riders and horses were all unharmed, as was the driver of the car.

Police say it was a very distressing incident for all involved and are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Ramsey police on 812 234
