Benefit frauds cheated the tax payer by more than ?168,000 last year.
That figure for the year to the end of March, is up by ?47,000 on the previous 12 months.

Just over ?22,000 of wrongly-paid benefit was due to official error.
The total bill for social security payments last year was more than ?240 million.
Fraud and error together account for point-zero-eight per cent (0.079%) of benefit payments overall.
