Mobile phone companies to work with Commission

Mobile phone operators in the Island are promising to work with the Communications Commission on proposals to bring down the cost of mobile phone calls for Island consumers.

Mobile termination rates or MTRs - the charges one network makes for calls to another - are substantially higher here than in the UK and most of Europe.

The commission's launched a consultation into the local mobile market, promising to regulate to lower MTRs.

Gillian Lauder is a telecoms consultant who's led pricing reviews in Ireland and Gibraltar.

She says a clear path lies ahead for the Island's two providers:
