Celton Manx is delighted to announce its continued support of the annual Bobby Moore Fund Golf Day.
The Bobby Moore Fund was set up by Stephanie Moore MBE in partnership with Cancer Research UK. The fund was established in memory of her late husband who sadly died from bowel cancer, aged just 51. Each year the fund raises over £2 million for the research and treatment of bowel cancer which is the third most common cancer in the UK with almost 100 people being diagnosed with the disease every day.
The inaugural event in 2011 was a huge success with attendance from a number of sporting celebrities including Duncan McKenzie, John Salako and Luther Blisset. A massive £19,885.00 was raised for the fund on the day.
The event which is being held at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club on the 25th May, is being organised by Island resident and friend of the Moore’s Lars T Ugland.
Lars said: ‘I am very pleased to be working with Celton Manx again, the company has been a staunch supporter of the Bobby Moore Fund and I thank them for this.
‘I was and still am so impressed with what the Fund has achieved over these years. This money goes directly to cancer research and the results obtained are extraordinary. No one deserves support more than Stephanie Moore and The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK in my opinion. She is an extraordinary person and I feel privileged to be able to call her my friend.’
A charity set up in the memory of such a footballing legend is bound to have a number of celebrity supporters and attending the golf day will be former professional snooker player Willie Thorne.
Executive Director of Celton Manx, Bill Mummery said: ‘When I heard that Lars was organising a golf day and dinner to benefit the Bobby Moore fund last year, we jumped at the chance to be involved and we are delighted to carry on our support this year. Our brand, SBOBET, is the official sponsor of West Ham United, and therefore our connections to the Fund are obvious.
‘Bobby made 544 appearances for West Ham United between 1958 – 1974 and lifted the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup during his captaincy. He is of course best known for captaining the World Cup winning England team in the 1966 final and being the only England captain to lift the famous Jules Rimet trophy. He is a true legend of English football.
‘The work carried out by Cancer Research UK and the Bobby Moore Fund is outstanding and we are proud to be supporting it once again.’
