by isleofman.com 16th May 2012

Friday 20 April 2012 marked the date of the Annual Bankers Dinner co-hosted by the Isle of Man Bankers Association (IOMBA) and the IFS, School of Finance, Isle of Man Centre (IFS).

The event was held at the Palace Hotel & Casino with over 250 guests attending and was a night enjoyed by all. With high profile guests topping the bill, the night was a huge success with the event planners receiving great feedback on a very enjoyable evening including dinner and great entertainment by non other than the legendary comedian Roy Walker.

The prestigious guests included comedian Roy Walker as the after dinner speaker, His Excellency, Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood, the guest of honour, who gave a few humorous anecdotes along with the Loyal Toast, and the Chief Minister, Hon Alan Bell MHK. Grace was said by Mike Hennessy, Chief Financial Officer of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce and the Presidents from each Association hosting the event gave speeches, Mark Waterhouse, President of the IOMBA and Peter Reid, President of the IFS.

The speeches were all very well received with Roy Walker giving a great performance and having the whole audience in stitches at times with his witty humour and excellent timing of his delivery.

Mark Waterhouse, President of the Isle of Man Bankers Association commented, “Although there were one or two important messages delivered by the Presidents overall it was a very light hearted evening with everyone enjoying the after dinner speeches.”

Peter Reid, President of the IFS School of Finance, Isle of Man Centre said “With superb food provided by the Palace Hotel, excellent entertainment and over two thousand pounds raised for Manx charities the Annual Bankers Dinner was a great evening enjoyed by all.  The event was a sell out and we will certainly be looking to increase availability for next year’s event.”

A raffle was held on the evening raising £2,300 to be split between the Presidents nominated charities; Crossroads Care and Kemmyrk – The Manx Homeless Charity.
