Government accounts in the black

by isleofman.com 16th May 2012

Last year saw the government go ?23 million into the black.

The draft accounts have yet to be audited, but show in total the Island received just over ?550 million and managed to put ?15 million into the bank for a rainy day.

Just three departments say they need extra money for the last year – Social Care, Home Affairs and Community, Culture and Leisure.

The accounts show the government spent ?78 million on capital projects, while ongoing costs were ?530 million.

Of the departments which overspent, both Home Affairs and Social Care will ask for an extra ?400,000 while the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure will ask to spend another ?600,000 it’s managed to make.

The government says its surplus of ?23 million is down to extra cash coming and less money being spent.

The final, audited accounts are expected to be laid before Tynwald in October.
