Supplementary Scope Team report published

by isleofman.com 14th May 2012

Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK has announced the publication of a supplementary report from the independent team which has been looking at the Scope of Government in the Isle of Man.

The further report, which comments on Government’s budgetary rebalancing strategy and the potential for major cost savings, is published on Friday May 11 following its presentation as part of a briefing to Tynwald Members this morning.

The Chief Minister explained: ‘When I asked the Scope team to revisit their original recommendations from 2006 I also invited them to make any other observations they might have on Government’s financial situation.

‘As with the first report from the Scope review team this further material is being published purely as a discussion document at this stage, in the interests of openness and transparency, with no recommendations from the Council of Ministers.

‘I would like to thank the review team for their work in producing these reports, which I hope will stimulate a wide and lively public debate over the coming months about the size, role and future direction of Government in the Island.’

The first and main report from the review team was published on Tuesday this week. It was updated at the Chief Minister’s request by the same team, chaired by former Clerk of Tynwald Robert Quayle, which produced the original Scope and Structure of Government study in 2006.

The Scope of Government will be the main topic for discussion at the next Council of Ministers community meeting in Peel on June 26.

Both reports from the Scope of Government Review Team can be found on the Isle of Man Government website at http://www.gov.im/cso/ministers/
