Good turnout for Big Beach Clean-up

There was a good turnout for this morning's Big Beach Clean up.

The initiative, organised by Marks and Spencer in association with the Marine Conservation Society, was one of 50 across the UK this weekend.

It forms part of the supermarket's ongoing "Forever Fish" campaign which is funded by a 5p carrier bag charge in M and S foodhalls. Introduced in 2008, this has reduced carrier bag usage by 80% in stores around the country.

Dozens of volunteers turned out to help collect rubbish off Douglas beach this morning.

Local store manager Kenny Marshall says he believes whilst supermarkets can play their role in helping to maintain healthy seas, everyone can do their bit.
