Island tech savvy

by isleofman.com 10th May 2012

Residents on the Isle of Man are somewhat more tech savvy than householders across the water

It's claimed Islanders are downloading more via their home broadband communications than the average UK household.

Telecoms firms SURE says this trend is likely to continue in coming years as the internet becomes more of a focus in peoples' lives.

A recent OfCom report shows the average UK household downloads 17 gigabytes of data every month, whereas those in the Isle of Man and Channel Islands are averaging 24 gigabytes.

Head of Data at SURE, Mike Phillips, says this is due to the ever increasing number of devices connected to the internet, including ipads, laptops, smartphones and PCs.

Smart TVs and games consoles are also online and it's predicted soon almost all hardware in the house will be connected to the web.
