Police renew fatal accident witness appeal

by isleofman.com 10th May 2012

Police are renewing their appeal for information about a fatal road accident at Bishopscourt on Sunday.

A blue Honda Jazz car which was heading towards Ballaugh careered into a vehicle parked on the opposite side of the road, before ploughing into a stone wall.

Three women in the Honda were cut free from the wreckage and treated at the scene by paramedics, but one of the party, a 91-year-old woman later named as Freda Starkey from Ballaugh, later died in hospital from her injuries.

Officers are now appealing for the driver of a silver or grey Volkswagen to come forward.

Inspector Derek Flint says officers are working through witness interviews, and are particularly interested in speaking to the driver of this car, which is believed to be a Golf.

It's thought the car may have been directly behind the blue Honda Jazz.

Inspector Flint stresses the driver isn't in any trouble, but it will help investigators put together a picture of how things developed in the moments before the crash.

If you can help please contact police on 631212.
