Celton Manx Cruse Bereavement Golf Day Raises ?7000

by isleofman.com 8th May 2012

The first annual Cruse Bereavement Golf Day, supported by Celton Manx, was held last week in glorious sunshine at Peel Golf Club.

The event was very well supported by the local business community and was fully subscribed with 18 teams signed-up for the Texas scramble competition. The winning team was ‘The Lookers’ whose members included Sam Skelton, Steve McCafferty, Andrew Challenor and David Quayle. Second place went to the team from Isle of Man Golf Tours and in third place was the team from Capital International. Winners of nearest to the pin were Anthony O’Mahoney on the 2nd and John Cassidy on the 17th and the longest drive went to Martin Young on the 18th.

The day was rounded off by a lunch at the club house with a prize presentation and auction of a West Ham United match day hospitality package, donated by Celton Manx, which raised a fantastic £1,250.

Cruse Bereavement organiser, Sam Skelton said: ‘We at Cruse are truly grateful to Celton Manx for its hugely generous sponsorship of the day, including the fabulous auction prize donation. I would like to, once again, thank them for their support and contribution to the success of the day. I would also like to thank the organising committee from Cruse and the staff and caterers at Peel Golf Club who did a superb job.

‘The money raised on the day will help go towards the training and development of our volunteer counsellors who provide a valuable and discrete service to the community.’

Celton Manx, Executive Director Bill Mummery said: ‘It was a real pleasure to be able support the Cruse golf day. The team put on a great event and it was fantastic to see so many people out in support of such a worth-while charity. I know that all the money raised on the day will be put to good use in the local community.’
