Children at Ballacottier have celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by adding something to their school which should last at least another sixty years.  The Year 2 children (aged 6-7) planted a dozen saplings, provided for free by the Woodland Trust, on the school grounds.

The children were helped in the task by staff from local corporate IT provider Skanco Business Systems, which has a strong track record of supporting educational initiatives and community activity on the Isle of Man.  Skanco engineers, Damian Owen and Jonathan Price, dug the holes for the new saplings, which now sit outside the Year 2 classroom.

Ballacottier teacher Julie Butterworth commented: “It was great to see the children out and enjoying this activity.  The trees and bushes they planted will be around for a very long time to come and will help to make the school environment nicer for everyone who learns and works here.  The children and I would like to thank Skanco again for their help in doing some of the dirtier work.”
