A group of fishermen in the UK’s North East claims Manx fishing boats are damaging their gear as they dredge scallops.
The Holderness Coast Fishing Industry Group is to meet the UK government to argue scallop dredging should be banned off the East Yorkshire coast.
Mike Cohen, the organisation’s chief executive, claims scallop boats have caused ?100,000 worth of damage to fishing gear recently.
The fishery concentrates on crabs and lobsters and Mr Cohen says dredging is damaging the marine environment.
Mr Cohen says boats are travelling to the area from Scotland and the Isle of Man, blaming them for the damage.
In East Yorkshire, an emergency by-law from the North East Inshore Fishery and Conservation Authority prevents scallop dredging within six miles of land.
Mr Cohen now says he wants talks about a ban with the UK Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon as soon as possible.
