Avison inquest opened and adjourned

by isleofman.com 26th April 2012

An inquest into the death of a 73-year-retired Merchant Navy officer has been opened and adjourned by Coroner of Inquests John Needham.

Kenneth William Avison, of Mona Drive, Douglas, died in the Island's hospice on April 13.

A post-mortem had shown the cause of death to be pleural mesothelioma, a lung disease often associated with asbestos.

Mr Needham said further inquiries into Mr Avison's death were due to take place.

Whilst some internal organs have been retained for further tests, he released the body for burial and adjourned the inquest to a date to be confirmed.
