The Joey Dunlop Foundation has been presented with a cheque for more than £2,600 by Manx DVD publisher Duke and Northern Irish producers Waldovision.
The donation comes from the proceeds of the sale of the film Joey Dunlop – No Ordinary Joe. The DVD, produced by Waldovision, reflected on the man behind the road racing legend with previously unseen interviews and photos from the Dunlop family albums, contributions from friends, relatives and fellow racers, plus several extraordinary anecdotes about the 26-times TT winner.
Released before Christmas, the DVD has received critical acclaim and sold well around the world, with Duke despatching DVDs all over Europe, the Far East and the USA from its Isle of Man headquarters.
The £2,639 donation was made at Braddan Bridge House on the TT course, the accommodation for disabled people built and run with money collected by the Joey Dunlop Foundation in memory of the legendary racer.
Duke Managing Director Peter Duke said:
“No Ordinary Joe is an exceptional programme which reveals more about the man behind the legend than previous programmes. Director Anna Masefield and producers Waldovision gathered emotional and revealing interviews with Joey’s close family, his friends and fellow racers to show what he was really like as an intensely private man, tireless charity worker, husband and father.”
“It is a very emotional programme, reflecting on Joey some 10 years after his tragic death, but also at times an hilarious programme as we hear anecdotes, some for the first time, about Joey away from the race circuit – including a night in the European fog and why the police were after him!”
He added:
“With interest in Joey Dunlop remaining so strong and the quality of this film, we aren’t surprised it has been so well received by critics and customers worldwide. I am delighted we have been able to make this donation from the proceeds of sales to the Foundation created in Joey’s memory to help its important work continue.”
Foundation Treasurer and Trustee Kevin Quirk said:
“Joey's charity is now well established and enjoyed a very successful first year welcoming guests of all ages and disabilities to the Island. Although our facilities are unique, we were inundated with requests and unfortunately many potential visitors were left disappointed when we could not provide accommodation.”
“Although discussions are in the early stages, we do hope that with ongoing fund raising that we can either extend at Braddan Bridge or acquire a second property. The JDF committee are extremely proud of these facilities, we now have a truly remarkable facility in memory of Joey Dunlop.”
He added:
“Thank you to all concerned for supporting JDF via royalties from ‘No Ordinary Joe’, and I would strongly recommend that if you have not purchased this DVD then place it at the top of your shopping list at TT2012.”
