Island goes to the polls for local elections

by isleofman.com 26th April 2012

It’s local authority election day in the Isle of Man.

There are elections in 12 of the 24 local authority areas, with four in Douglas and two in Ramsey.

It’s the third time all local government elections have been held on the same day as part of the former Department of Local Government’s bid to boost interest and increase turnouts after years of voter apathy.

A total of 118 seats are up for grabs as Andreas, Braddan, Castletown, Douglas, German, Laxey, Lezayre, Malew, Michael, Port Erin, Port St Mary and Ramsey go to the polls.

Polling stations are open from 8am until 8pm.

James Davis (audio file attached):

There will be live coverage of the elections with studio comment in a special Manx Radio programme from 8pm.
