Prison protest ends peacefully

by isleofman.com 25th April 2012

The situation at the Isle of Man Prison has been resolved peacefully.

Up to 40 inmates had been refusing to lock-up in a protest over the prison's no-smoking rule.

Negotiations have been taking place through the afternoon and at 6pm the prison returned to normal operation.

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson has commended the Governor Alison Gomme and her staff for their professionalism in handling the incident and expressed his thanks to those who helped during the afternoon and evening.
