A team of 6 teenagers on Adventurous Experiences 'Youth Scholarship - Development and Leadership Program' showed their mettle over the Easter Holidays paddling 85 miles around the Manx coastline, completing the challenging circumnavigation in 4 days, including Force 4-5 winds, carrying all their kit and food in the kayaks.
The 18 month program, funded entirely by Adventurous Experiences Corporate Team Building and Events , culminates in the 3 week self-sufficient expedition to Vancouver Island this July (students contribute towards their costs for the expedition only). The Youth Scholarship program has come full circle, with the expedition leader Sam Murphy and leader Rebecca Goodson having both come through the Youth Scholarship Program themselves, before joining the Adventurous Experiences coaching team.
This is the 7th overseas expedition, with the present program running through 18 months, then recruiting the next intake of year 12 further education pupils. All secondary schools on the Island will be contacted this Autumn and pupils will be given the opportunity to sign up to the program for the New Year. The 2014 expedition is planned to go to Haida Gwaii.
29 students signed up to the present program last January, 6 will go to Vancouver.

George Shaw (part of the Leadership team for the program) inspired the students when he smashed the 'round the island record', completing the circumnavigation in 13 and half hours, just before Easter.
