Crossroads Care Calling for Walkers

by isleofman.com 24th April 2012

Each and every year the Parish Walk raises thousands of pounds for charity and this year Manx Telecom has chosen Crossroads Care as one of five charities to profile and encourage walkers to raise money for.

Crossroads Care provides meaningful respite to those caring for someone with an illness, disability, frailty, substance abuse or mental health issue on the Isle of Man. Each year Crossroads provides over 50,000 hours of respite and 50,000 hours of meaningful care so that carers can continue to care and lead a life outside of caring.

Alex Wilson, Crossroads Care Fundraising Coordinator, said: “We employ over 80 people in the Island to help take over responsibility so that carers can have a few hours to themselves. At present it costs over £1 million per year to provide our services. We are fortunate in that the local community understands the importance of the work we do and supports us through fundraising, donations, volunteering and our Shops”.

“The Parish walk is the Island’s largest individual charity fundraiser. Last year, through funds raised by individual sponsorship we were able to provide more care hours and reach a greater number of carers in need of our services. This year, we hope to see a number of walkers walking in aid of Crossroads Care. With the support of Manx Telecom, we hope that this is achievable.”

If you would be interested in raising money for Crossroads Care, please contact Alex Wilson of Crossroads on 673103 or email awilson@crossroadsiom.org.

The 2012 Manx Telecom Parish Walk takes place on 23-24 June, at 8am from the NSC in Douglas, Isle of Man. For further details, and to enter, visit www.parishwalk.com before the online entry deadline of Sunday 13th May 2012.
