Court filming would have benefits

by isleofman.com 19th April 2012

A local advocate believes television cameras could eventually become a regular sight in Island court rooms.

However, John Wright insists filming in courts across the UK and the Isle of Man would be carefully regulated.

He was speaking after the decision to allow the sentencing of convicted murderer David Gilroy at the High Court in Edinburgh to be filmed and shown on TV news programmes.

Cameras have been allowed in Scotland's courts for the last 20 years but only when all parties involved have given their consent.

Mr Wright can see the benefits.
