Infection means tree-moval

by isleofman.com 18th April 2012

Council workers are to chop down 50 Manx palm trees in Noble’s Park after they suffered damage during last winter’s weather.

Severe frosts meant the trees have succumbed to a bacterial infection which normally lies dormant inside them.

The Cordyline slime flux kills the palm trees and the council is worried they could pose a safety risk if branches start to fall.

Leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts says although they’ve been part of the landscape in the park for years, they’ll now be felled and replaced.
