Policeman on trial over Manx student's death

The trial of a police officer charged in connection with the death Manx student in Sheffield gets underway today.

Nineteen-year-old Jamie Haslett died after being hit by a police car which was being driven by Pc Rodney Mills.

Jamie was a student at Sheffield Hallam University at the time of the accident.

The accident happened at 3.45am on October 27 2010 on Broad Lane in Sheffield as the police car responded to a request for help from an ambulance.

Jamie was in his second year of a degree in Sport and Business Management and had previously been a student at St Ninian's High School.

An investigation into the incident was carried out by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The driver of the police patrol car, Rodney Craig Mills, denies causing death by careless driving.

The case is being heard at Bradford Crown Court.
