The Manx Educational Foundation (MEF) is pleased to be organizing, in conjunction with BCS Elite, an event that will provide a rare opportunity to hear from one of the leading authorities in ICT education as he answers the question; what is a CIO and how do we ensure we develop the right competencies for success?
The MEF is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation set up last year to encourage public-private partnerships in the field of education, with the aim of making the Island a centre of excellence for key industries. The MEF support a number of educational causes including securing private funding to save the Island’s libraries.
This BCS ELITE Event is being held at The Forum in Douglas on the 10th of May 2012 and will be the perfect way to introduce new knowledge into the ICT sector on the Isle of Man.
The discussion is being chaired by Kevin Streater, Executive Director responsible for the ICT education provided by the Open University and a Chartered Fellow of BCS. He is also a member of the National Council for BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and the Council for the SFIA Foundation which is the UK national body which defines the "Skills Framework for the Information Age". Kevin has led ICT education in both academia with the Open University, and in industry, heading up customer education in the UK for Sun Microsystems.
As a senior member of BCS and SFIA Kevin is deeply involved in the UK's efforts to understand, codify and promote the skills and attributes which ICT leaders must exhibit to be effective contributors to the organisations they lead. In this talk for BCS ELITE he will map the pathways to the development of an effective Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the skills they must acquire en-route.
This event will be invaluable to any Senior IT professional who aspires to become a CIO, IT Director or a senior manager within the field of IT. It will also serve to be highly informative to all corporate leaders and recruitment professionals by learning more about what characteristics distinguish successful CIOs, and what to look for when hiring IT leaders.
