RNLI volunteer Paul Cunningham received his 20 year long service award from the Lieutenant Governor, Mr Adam Wood on 25 March. His Excellency was on an unofficial visit to Douglas RNLI Lifeboat Station as the Station’s Patron.
Paul became a RNLI volunteer shore helper at Douglas in January 1992 being appointed to his current position of Head Launcher in July 2007.
When asked about his experiences as a volunteer with the RNLI Paul said: ‘I have enjoyed my 20 years service for the lifeboat and being part of a lot of call outs for Douglas lifeboat over the years.’
The Lieutenant Governor, who joined the Douglas Lifeboat on exercise that morning, said: ‘It is striking how diverse are the day jobs of the modern day lifeboat crew, yet the dedication of volunteers like Paul Cunningham makes a crucial difference to safety at sea.’
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the RNLI as lifeboat crew, shore helper, or fund raiser should contact their nearest lifeboat station.
