The Isle of Man's clean tech sector has raised its profile by sponsoring a UK national award.
The Department of Economic Development sponsored the prize for University Spin-out of the Year at the 2012 New Energy Awards, recently held at the Science Museum in London.
The prize recognises the work of teams whose research leads to new developments with commercial potential.
Senior Manager for Energy Policy at DED Dr Ken Milne presented the prize to Ilika Technologies Ltd, a spin-out from the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton.
Their innovations include developing new material for lithium-ion batteries and cheaper alternatives to platinum electrodes in fuel cells.
Dr Milne says the event helps to raise the Island's profile as an ideal location for clean tech businesses to trial new technologies and protect intellectual property.
