Attention all Children!

by isleofman.com 10th April 2012

Starting on 16 April, Loaghtan Books and Lexicon Bookshop are running a competition to see which child can write the best story about why the Manx cat has no tail.

The winning entry will be included in Loaghtan Books’ forthcoming publication A De-tailed Account of Manx Cats. Lexicon Bookshop will also give the child who writes the best story £50 in vouchers to spend in Lexicon. Their school will receive copies of Loaghtan Books’ publications.

Mary Cousins, Librarian in Charge at the DEC Family Library, and one of the judges of the competition says: ‘What I love about children’s writing most of all is that they are less self-conscious than adults and often their creativity and turn of events are more wild and off-the-wall than you’d expect. I can’t wait to get reading.’

Adds David Ashworth of Lexicon: ‘Creative writing is one of the most important skills that a child can learn; it stretches the imagination and provides a wonderful way for them to express themselves. As a Manxman, I am looking forward to reading about lots of different ways as to how the Manx cat might have lost its tail!’

Stories should be sent to Loaghtan Books by email or terrestrial mail, and details are available at all primary schools. So, come on kids, get writing.
