Arg Beiyn Veterinary Practice to hold Charity Fun Day

by isleofman.com 10th April 2012

Arg Beiyn Veterinary Practice are holding a Charity Fun Day Veterinary Practice Open Day Event in Parliament Street, Ramsey on 21 April 2012 between 10am to 4pm.

The event will run from 10am to 4pm and will involve a multitude of fun activities and events.

“The event has been organised in association with National Pet Month which aims to promote responsible pet ownership but the ultimate goal of this event is to help raise money and awareness for the two charities that Arg Beiyn are supporting this year which are Hounds for Heroes and The Manx Wildlife Trust.” said Edric Cross one of the senior vets.

“Our surgery in Ramsey will be open for a behind the scenes look at a veterinary practice and, with rehabilitation in mind, there will be an opportunity to see how we take an injured dog from the start of its problem through investigation and surgery to its recovery phase using the Island’s only professionally run hydrotherapy and physiotherapy service for dogs. There will be an opportunity throughout the day to see dogs using our under-water treadmill.”

“The Manx Wildlife Trust will be familiar to most people with an interest in wildlife and conservation on the island. Hounds for Heroes is a UK based charity that provides and trains assistance dogs for severely injured servicemen. We believe this to be a most worthy charity and supporting it is our way of expressing gratitude to our injured servicemen who have given  much in performance of their duties and  who’s lives will remain permanently changed as a result of injuries sustained in theatres of war such as Afghanistan.”

There will be displays of dog agility and obedience and wild animals from the Wildlife Park on the garden area by East Street on Parliament Street. Also present will be miniature ponies from Pennybridge Stables, piglets from Ramsey Grammar School and during the day there will be street performers and entertainment acts, finishing with a live band at East Street from 3pm. There will also be a Touch Tank run by the Manx Wildlife Trust in the surgery on Parliament Street and, with Andrew Barton Photography present throughout the day, there will be the opportunity for a lucky few to have a photographic portrait taken whilst handling one of the wild animals.

There will be a treasure hunt style competition for all visitors to Ramsey whereby collection of clue words from a few select stores in Ramsey will allow free entry into a competition to win prizes that have been donated by local businesses. Edric said “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from Ramsey traders and we have a terrific prize fund with some fantastic prizes. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the traders in Ramsey and the Ramsey Chamber of Commerce for their support.”

“We hope that people coming to Ramsey will enjoy the day or a fun filled hour or two whilst savouring the shopping and refreshment facilities in the town and supporting our two charities.”
