New Three-Islands Role for Manx Gas Managing Director

by isleofman.com 10th April 2012

Manx Gas managing director Tony Nicholls has been promoted to a major new role which sees him become group managing director of parent company International Energy Group (IEG).

Mr Nicholls, 51, will now be responsible for IEG’s gas operations in both the Isle of Man and Channel Islands but will continue to be based at the head office of Manx Gas on South Quay in Douglas.

“I’m delighted to be taking on this exciting challenge with the gas services in the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey all becoming one business as opposed to separately run entities,” said Mr Nicholls, who became managing director Manx Gas in June, 2010.

Mr Nicholls stressed that despite his wider responsibilities his base, both office and home, will be the Isle of Man.

“Both my wife Lorraine and I love the island and are settled here,” he said.

Mr Nicholls, a Member of the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers and Fellow of the Institute of Directors, started his career with British Gas and was also European managing director for Cumbria-based Furmanite, a specialist services company operating in the energy and powergen sectors.

Other organisational changes see Robert Gardner, previously engineering manager and director of Manx Gas, become director of IEG Customer and Network Services.  He will have responsibility for the three islands but will continue to be based in the Isle of Man.

John Davies, who was previously operations support engineer at Manx Gas, is promoted to commercial director of IEG with responsibility for the three businesses but again will be based on the island.

Dawn Morgan, who is based in Guernsey,  continues as finance director and company secretary, while Jersey-based Stuart Crossman takes up the position of safety, health, environment  and asset management director.  Executive chairman of IEG in the UK is Neil Shaw.
