Grand Slam Target Two for Geordies

by isleofman.com 9th April 2012

St. George's go into this afternoon's Cu-Plas F.A. Cup Final hoping to complete leg two of their Grand Slam ambition.

They face a bouyant Union Mills who lifted the Woods Cup last Thursday evening and are on the verge of promotion back to the Premier League.

The match is at The Bowl with a 3pm kick-off.

Tim Glover looks at how the sides made it to today's showdown:-

St. George's have smashed in 31 goals in four matches to reach the final - they beat Malew 14-0 and Foxdale 9-0 in the early rounds before facing fellow premiership opposition. After a 5-1 win over Corinthians their biggest test came at Blackberry Lane in a heated semi-final - they eventually beat Old Boys 3-1 after extra-time.

Union Mills have seen off both Division Two promotion rivals in their cup run with 5-0 wins over Marown and Onchan in the semi-final. A warning to St. George's - Millers have beaten two top flight sides - firstly St. John's 3-1 and then they knocked holders Rushen out on penalties after the tie ended 2-2.

The odds are stacked heavily in favour of St. George's marching on but Millers will take heart as the cup always likes to throw up stories of giant-killing every now and then!
