Prizes up for grabs as Manx Telecom Parish Walk Entries Approach 1,000 mark

by isleofman.com 5th April 2012

The 1,000th entrant to sign up for this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk will receive a free entry courtesy of the event sponsor. So far, 979* walkers have signed up for the event, and whoever becomes the 1,000th to enter the race will be given a refund of their entry fee. And there’s still time to be in with a chance to win a Sony Ericsson Xperia Active smartphone from Manx Telecom if you enter the walk before midnight on Sunday April 8. All of the entries made before this time will be entered into a draw to win the smartphone which has many features and applications for health and fitness enthusiasts, including a MapMYFitness app which offers GPS tracking and can be used to record all the data about your training for the walk and log your progress on the big day. There are also three runners-up prizes provided by Intersport in association with Asics - a pair of trainers, a waterproof jacket, and a tee-shirt.

Manx Telecom Parish Walk Race Director Ray Cox said:
“The competition to win a smartphone, sportswear, and the offer of a free entry for the 1,000th entrant, have all added extra incentives for people to sign up for the event. There are still a few weeks to go before entries close at one minute to midnight on Sunday May 13, but I would urge everyone who wants to take part not to leave it too late. It’s better to enter before midnight on April 8 and secure your place, and be in with a chance to win some excellent prizes!”

Based on the number of walkers who had signed up at this stage in previous years, Ray says he is confident that this year will see a record number of entries. The current record was set in 2011 with a total 1,753 registering to take part. The May 13 final entry deadline also applies for the Manx Telecom Corporate Challenge and Team events. The Manx Telecom Corporate Challenge category is for teams of four. All team members must be bona fide employees of the same company, and no team can have more than one member who has previously completed the full 85-mile Parish Walk. Winners of the Corporate Challenge will each receive a Sony Ericsson Xperia Active smartphone from Manx Telecom. The winners will be the team which clocks up the highest combined total mileage for the four team members. In the event of a tie in mileage, the total time for all four team members will be used to decide the winner.

There will still be an overall team competition with the rule that no more than two of the four team members have previously finished the full Parish Walk course. All participants - including those for the team and Corporate Challenge events - must enter individually. To enter the team events, entrants simply put the name of their team or Corporate Challenge team on the online entry form. Those who have already entered can go back to their online entry and add in the name of their team or Corporate Challenge team.

The Manx Telecom Parish Walk starts at the NSC at 8am on Saturday June 23. To enter go to the official website at www.parishwalk.com
