Consensus on need to change social housing model

by isleofman.com 4th April 2012

The Social Care Minister says a recent conference has shown there's a general consensus about the need for fundamental changes to the way public sector housing is funded.

Chris Robertshaw says the event at the Mount Murray was well attended by local housing authorities.

The aim was to discuss the Isle of Man's challenges, which Mr Robertshaw says includes building in the current climate and providing appropriate housing for the elderly.

But he says it's the issue of funding which really needs to be tackled.

Mr Robertshaw also says there has been a good response to the department's housing review, with more than 400 submissions so far.

The consultation finishes on June 7.
