Manx veteran recalls Falklands conflict

by isleofman.com 3rd April 2012

A Manx veteran of the Falklands says he’ll commemorate the conflict’s anniversary at a ceremony with his regiment in the UK later this year.

Gordy Karran, the mechanic with Port St Mary lifeboat, served with two-nine commando and was sent to the Falklands when Argentina invaded in 1982.

Among the first British troops to land on the occupied islands, he says many soldiers saw it as an opportunity to put their training into practice.

He remembers arriving in the combat zone.
