Rent reassurance for Council tenants

by isleofman.com 3rd April 2012

Don’t believe everything you hear!

That’s the message from a Douglas councillor after she was contacted by ratepayers concerned their public sector housing rents are set to soar.

A report, commissioned by the Department of Social Care, revealed a 16 per cent increase would eliminate the ?7 million deficit on public sector housing within five years.

However, Carol Malarkey, chairman of the public health and housing committee, says some tenants have been told wrong information and insists no decision has been made.

Carol Malarkey is one of four candidates contesting three seats in Hills Ward in this month’s Local Authority elections.

She is standing against David Christian, Eddie Joyce and Kevin Oliphant-Smith.
