Coroner declares finds to be treasure trove

66 silver coins and a piece of a silver Viking arm ring have been declared treasure trove at a special court hearing today.

Coroner of Inquests John Needham heard the coins were found near Ballasalla by metal detectorist John Lewis.

They dated back to between the 13th century and the arm ring found by Robert Middleton in Patrick was from as early as 960AD.

Both were declared to be treasure, and so belong to the Crown.

Alison Fox of Manx National Heritage says it's great when such finds are unearthed:
