Warning over petrol hoarding

by isleofman.com 30th March 2012

The Island’s Fire Service and Office of Fair Trading say there’s no need for anybody to hoard fuel as the UK prepares for a tanker strike.

The Office of Fair Trading says the Isle of Man will remain unaffected by the strike because our fuel arrives by boat.

And the Fire Service is reminding people of the dangers of hoarding fuel after the UK’s coalition government advised people to fill jerry cans and store them at home.

On the Island, anybody storing more than 10 litres of petrol needs a licence from the OFT, which says if someone hoards fuel at home and a fire breaks out, it may negate their insurance.
