More candidates declare

by isleofman.com 29th March 2012

Ahead of the closing of nominations, a number of local authority candidates have publicly declared over the last few days.

In Douglas, long-serving councillor Raina Chatel will stand again.

The former Mayor has represented Victoria Ward for the past 18 years.

Deputy Mayor of Douglas David Ashford also intends to defend his seat.

Mr Ashford represents Victoria Ward and, at 34, is the youngest member of Douglas Council.

In Castletown, another former chairman, Kevin Weir, will put his name forward.

A member of the board for the past 12 years, Mr Weir foresees change within local government over the next term and says it should be embraced.

In Onchan, finance sector worker Rob Callister will be among the challengers, while port security officer Robin Turton – elected in last November’s by-election - will bid for a longer term.

Meanwhile, out west, chartered secretary and financial accountant David Talbot will seek re-election in Patrick.

Retired fire officer John Skinner has confirmed he'll stand in Murrays Ward for Douglas Council, while chairman of the council's public health and housing committee, Carol Malarkey, will seek re-election in Hills Ward.
