Motorists are being warned to expect delays at Glen Lough from next week.
The Department of Infrastructure starts work there on Monday, April 2 to strengthen the embankment and fix an area of subsidence.
The work includes the removal of the trees from alongside the road, building a pre cast concrete retaining wall, and re-construction of the road.
Traffic control will be in place for some of the work and the entire road will have to be closed when re-surfacing work gets underway. Dates for this will be announced closer to the time, though it will take place in the evening in order to minimise disruption.
Work is expected to take around a month and will be finished by early May.
