by isleofman.com 28th March 2012

A credit scheme for pre-school care is far from perfect but does make it fairer across the Island.

That admission from the chief executive of the Department of Education and Children after details were revealed.

From September - when state run facilities are transferred into private ownership - all families will receive ?350 a year to help them meet the costs of nursery, with an extra ?800 support for poorer families.

Stuart Dobson says while the proposals will make free pre-school available to all, it will only cover part of the cost for those attending five days a week.
