Funding problems for basking shark research

by isleofman.com 27th March 2012

Manx Basking Shark Watch says it may be unable to carry out invaluable research this year, because it doesn't have enough cash.

The group’s satellite tagging programme has revealed information on the sharks' movements once they leave Manx waters, tracking them as far afield as Canada. It also shows the vast majority of the sharks seen here overwinter in the Celtic sea off the southern tip of England.

But this year, a lack of money has put the programme in doubt.

Co-ordinator Jackie Hall hopes more funding can be secured as next year they have exciting plans for longer term satellite tags providing real time data

If you’d like to sponsor a tag or the group you can contact them on manxbaskingsharkwatch.com
