AAIB reports on Leeds flight crash

by isleofman.com 26th March 2012

The UK’s Air Accident Investigation Branch says a cockpit recorder captured the moments a plane skidded off the runway at Ronaldsway Airport.

The Manx2.com flight from Leeds was coming into land on March 8 when part of its right landing gear leg snapped.

The AAIB says it’s completed the first part of its investigation and has made a safety recommendation to the European Aviation Safety Agency.

It says corrosion in the yoke pintle housing on the Jetstream 31 aircraft was to blame, and notes inspections didn’t find cracks before the leg failed.

James Davis reports.
