Following a rescue yesterday (25 March) of a Personal Water Craft (Jet Ski) Peel RNLI have issued a warning to all boat and water craft owners to make sure that their vessels are fully serviced and seaworthy before putting out to sea.
With the recent spell of fine weather many people have taken advantage and put to sea with very little preparation.
Press Officer Malcolm Kelly said:
“It is most important for seafarers to fully service and check over their vessels and equipment before the Summer season to avoid break downs and possible rescue by the volunteers of the RNLI”
The rescue yesterday involved a PWC which had broken down about 100 yards from Peel breakwater. The passengers alerted the lifeboat by calling to people on the pier. The volunteer crew, under the command of second coxswain John Hunter were alerted by pager at 5.55 pm and the rescue lasted about 15 minutes. On contacting the parties one of whom was in the water without a life jacket the lifeboat towed the vessel back to Peel breakwater.
