A Laxey woman dismayed at the planned loss of the mobile library says those who benefit most are least able to campaign against closure.

Jean Tracy recently spent several months at home recovering from serious illness. She found the mobile library a source of not only books, but company and support in her local community.

Jean's spoken-out in response to Chief Minister Allan Bell's comment that the number of people opposing closure of the mobile and family libraries 'greatly outnumbers' those using them.

She says many users are elderly and infirm and, although upset at the closure, have not been able to write or demonstrate.

Jean says the Island could lose a service of great value in people's lives:

A Council of Ministers working party is currently looking at options to preserve the mobile and family libraries with help from the private or voluntary sectors.

Government funding is due to end in September.
