Sarah Hendy has been announced as the new Artist in Residence at the Sayle Gallery, Douglas, with effect from 1 April 2012.
Ramsey resident Sarah, graduated with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Applied Arts from Hereford College of Arts in 2010, and her 'wearable sculpture' beat off stiff competition from six other local artists whose applications were considered for this post.
“Sarah's extensive portfolio showed a progression from idea to finished sculpture, and she was clear in her mind that the residency would provide her with an opportunity to extend her use of textiles and other materials into art that would capitivate and enthrall the Gallery's audiences”, commented Margaret Claydon, Director of the Sayle Gallery. “Like all applicants, her work was reviewed by the Aesthetic Review Team prior to interview, and we are happy that Sarah will be an asset to the Sayle Gallery.”
Sarah, who currently works from a home studio, is delighted to be appointed Artist in Residence:
“Although I have enjoyed working in my own studio, I miss the interaction with other artists and art lovers which actually inspires and influences my creations,” she says. “In my creations I explore themes of adventure – physical, emotional and spiritual – and I am thrilled to now be able to embark on a new adventure myself, which will undoubtedly influence my work. It's going to be very exciting!”
Sarah will be working, creating her wearable sculpture, throughout the week at the Sayle Gallery, and visitors will be able to watch and talk to her as she works. Her own 'end of residency' exhibition is planned for March 2013.
The Sayle Gallery is open 10am – 5pm Tue – Sat, 1.30 – 4.30pm Sundays, 1pm – 5pm Mondays and admission is free.
