Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge for 2012? One that is unique and can only be attempted on the Isle of Man? The Children’s Centre’s ‘Race the Sun’, in association with Mann Made Group, may be for you!
The concept is simple: teams of up to ten competitors have to run once around the Island, relay style, between sunrise and sunset. The race is scheduled to start in Peel on Saturday 19th May, getting underway at 5.08am as soon as the sun rises. Teams must then finish the course before the sun disappears behind Ireland at 9.22pm. Split into ten challenging sections, each team must complete a clockwise lap of the Island’s Radd ny Foillan 98 mile coastal footpath. The race takes contenders along rugged cliff tops and through lush glens, from seldom visited hills to tidal estuaries and isolated beaches. This unique challenge requires not only strength and stamina, but also excellent preparation; it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. All money raised by this event will be used by The Children’s Centre to help support children, young people and families across the Isle of Man.
Locally based corporate service provider Mann Made Group has been supporting Race the Sun with generous sponsorship since its inception in 2008. The last four events have raised over £40,000 for The Children’s Centre, and the intention is to hit a cumulative total of £50,000 in 2012. Managing Director Alan Hollingsworth commented on the company’s support: “We are big believers in doing our part for the local community and The Children’s Centre is a particularly worthy cause. A healthy society must invest in the wellbeing and entertainment of its youth, so we are proud to be doing our part. Of course, it is also a really fun and interesting challenge, so I would definitely encourage other businesses and groups of friends to step up and take part.”
