Five nurseries could close

by isleofman.com 19th March 2012

There’s renewed hope this morning government run nurseries and pre-schools can be saved.

A fresh protest is planned outside Tynwald tomorrow (Tuesday) and those behind it believe more politicians are now willing to oppose plans to transfer the facilities into private ownership.

It’s also emerged five of the 12 government units have been earmarked for total closure in September.

It’s understood the nursery facilities at five schools where they operate jointly alongside reception classes will not be made available for private tender.

They include Anagh Coar, Ballasalla and St Thomas.

Mother of four Amy Burns, who has led the petition against the plans, remains optimistic the decision can be reversed.

She hopes an MHK will bring forward a new motion to keep all the nurseries open with parents contributing towards the cost of sessions.
