Five alive - Vikings are champs again!

by isleofman.com 17th March 2012

Vikings A are Manx women’s hockey champions – yet again!

The dominant force retained their title after a 3-3 draw with nearest rivals Castletown – but only after the southerners gave them a scare.

An early goal from Kerry Kelly briefly put Town in pole position for the championship and Eleanor Gawne’s double kept their hopes alive.

But Vikings retained the silverware and clinched a fifth successive title thanks to a hat-trick from Sarah Blackman against her former club.

Chloe Cornish’s goal earned Bacchas B a 1-0 success over Ramsey A, but there was heartache for Vikings B as a goalless draw with Valkyrs B meant they were relegated and their opponents survived.

Valkyrs A gained a modicum of revenge for missing out on the men’s title by beating the newly crowned champions Bacchas A 3-1 in the Wi-Manx Men’s Cup quarter-finals.

Ollie Webster (two) and Julian Colley ensured Richard Le Page’s strike was a consolation.
